The Enigma of Death and Existence

The enigma of death and existence,
The wonder of a starlit night,
The complexity of all there is to see
and yet we relent to Life’s insistence,
The simplest truth of what is right.

The ruthlessness of aging,
The youthful exuberance of birds in flight,
The momentary stasis that we carry
when we forget the war we’re waging,
The face of love that bares the light.

The impossible and the unachievable,
The limitless nature of the divine,
The shadows seen between
what is truth and what is believable,
The excuses we insist with every sign.

The enigma of death and existence,
The time-honored tradition of denial,
The reasons are as varied as the seasons
why we exhibit such resistance,
The greater the dream the shorter the while.
